[cc-devel] I'd like to continue contributing to CC

Hi,

I'm the student who participated in GSoC 2012 for Creative Commons in which
I ported the existing LibreOffice plugin to Python and enhanced its
functionality. After GSoC I was busy with my university internship and
couldn't continue contributing to the project. But now, the internship is
over and I have some spare time which can be used for important work.

When I took a look at the project I've been working on in CC, I noticed
that it hasn't yet been added to the LibreOffice Extensions center and the
code base hasn't been touched after I left it. Also there seems to be many
issues which are unfixed in
http://code.creativecommons.org/issues/issue?status=-1,1,2,3,4,5,6,7&@sort=-activity&@search_text=&@columns=id,activity,title,creator,assignedto,status&@dispname=CC%20OOo%20Addin&project=7&@group=priority&@filter=status,project&@pagesize=50&@startwith=0
.

Since Jonathan informed me that he'd be leaving CC sometime back, I thought
of contacting you to inform you that I'd still like to keep on contributing
to the project and work on the missed tasks such as adding the extension to
the LibreOffice Extensions center. If you have any other other projects
that you feel needs more attention that, I'd be more than willing to aid
you in anyway that is possible to me.

Hoping to hear from you soon...!

Hi Ishan,

Thanks for writing, and for your interest in continuing to help CC
with software development. We have a new technology lead, Dan Mills,
and we are sort in the process of reorganizing and regrouping how we
want things to operate. With regard to existing CC software, I think
our plan is to take a step back, analyze what we currently have and
where things need improving, and then once that is determined to work
forward with a plan. However, one of the areas that really needs help
is community members proactively taking initiative to integrate (or
better integrate) CC licensing into various platforms (e.g. WordPress,
Drupal) and various software applications. You were already involved
in one of those last summer with GSoC. The following page is quite
outdated, but does have some ideas, and anyone is free to update that
page with new ideas.

My recommendation for you at this very moment is to think about where
you'd like to see CC licensing integrated in some way, and then just
push forward with it. CC would probably be happy to host the code for
such projects. Meanwhile, you may like to hang out at
freenode.net#cc. It's not currently super active, but the more people
in there, the more active it is likely to become in the future.

Best,

Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Then I'll wait till everything is sorted out. Till then I'll be in the IRC
channel and will try to help for whoever is there. Also I'd give a thought
on the other ideas you have pointed out.
